ELECTIONS AHEAD: CONGRESS VERSUS CONGRESS IN ORISSA

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

When the general elections are not far away, the Orissa unit of the Congress Party is unable to rise to the occasion, as the lady autocrat, busy in enjoying the funniest show of sycophancy that her followers from Orissa are staging at New Delhi, has neither decided to change the provincial leadership nor has said ‘no’ to campaigners for the change.

Instead of building up united efforts to oust from power the BJD-BJP alliance that has ruined the State, packs of Congress members are busy in playing tricks at Delhi to oust their own State unit President even though that shatters the striking power of their organization at the general elections! Had there been an iota of internal democracy in this party, these fellows should have been taken to task for anti-party activities. But that never happens.

As it is, the Congress is presently a party of factotums of Sonia Gandhi. Every member thereof is eager to surpass the rest of the herd in displaying loyalty to Sonia. And, the lady obviously enjoys and encourages it.

The party is already in blacklist in public esteem as a party of American lobbyists. Peoples of this country have watched with horror how dishonestly Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh and Sonia-Pranab combine has destroyed our distinguished nuclear independence and clamped on our country a pernicious nuke deal that is designed to provide nuclear traders of USA a “bonanza” besides serving that country’s environmental interest at the cost of our own. Our peoples have also watched how horse trading was shamelessly resorted to by Man Mohan Singh in order to continue in power to further serve the American imperialistic design by destroying whatever little was left of socialism the Indian National Congress had earlier pledged itself to.

In the circumstances, the Congress under Sonia is not the Congress the peoples of Orissa are acquainted with and had supported in the past. Therefore they do not know the evil design Sonia has in stock against the Congress in Orissa.

Ever since emergence of Sonia as the supremo of the National Congress and of Navin Patnaik as Chief Minister of Orissa, the so-called Congress high command has created circumstances for defeat of Congress in the State in the general Elections, so that Navin, blue-eyed boy of USA cover POSCO could continue in power. Whoever watches dispassionately Orissa politics knows, Navin could never have won the last election. But deliberately winning candidates of Congress were denied party tickets at the last moment and in their places persons whom Navin had jettisoned from his party being convinced of their corruption, were planted as Congress candidates. Sonia set the Madhya Pradesh scrap Dig Vijay Singh as the controller of Orissa elections who emitted such signals that the voters understood that no leader of the party in the province enjoys the confidence of the “high-command” and none of them could be looked at as the prospective CM. Consequently it demoralized the contesting candidates so much that the party, which could sure have won, lost most pathetically.

Sonia is employing the same technique this time too. Her sycophants camping at New Delhi craving her “Darshan” are being encouraged to frequently appear before the media to announce that the provincial President shall soon be ousted along with the Leader of Opposition.

Nothing suits Navin more than this in this year of elections.

If Navin wins, who but the masks of America like the POSCO should benefit?

To American lobbyists who control the Congress, stay of Navin in power in Orissa is more desirable than any of Orissa Congress getting the position, as, no person, born and brought up in Orissa, can, sans qualms, handover her natural resources to non-Oriyas and non-Indians as Navin has done and does.

So, the curious reality that the Orissa provincial unit of Congress stands face to face is that the Indian National Congress under Sonia Gandhi is pushing it into defeat in the general elections that are almost at the doorsteps.

Till patriotic Oriyas rise against Navin, this agent of POSCO interest shall remain in power, it seems, as the Congress under Sonia and Singh combine will never allow the Congress to win in Orissa.

EVEN THE CITY CITIZENS OF ORISSA REJECTED THE PARTY OF AMERICAN LOBBYISTS

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

The result of municipality elections in Orissa has gone clearly against the Congress.

It does not necessarily suggest that the urban peoples have expressed their faith in Chief Minister Navin Patnaik by electing BJD-BJP candidates in majority of urban wards.

There was no coalition between the BJD and the BJP in the urban sector.

This lack of coalition between the two allies that rule the state is a clear pointer to the fact that the BJP unit of Orissa has no faith in Navin. So it would be ridiculous to imagine that the peoples, who in general are the worst affected by Navin’s misrule, have expressed their faith in him in municipal areas.

In fact, Navin Patnaik, as the Chief minister, was privy to intelligence reports that the peoples were so averse to the misruling coalition that the election results may be most embarrassing for him. The fidgetiness that engulfed him eventually made him rush to wards after wards to campaign for his candidates. It was unprecedented. To say the least, no Chief Minister ever in Orissa had campaigned for ward members / councilors in Notified Area councils or Municipal elections. Navin did it. Only a man in power, who knowing loss of his credibility, losses political equilibrium to understand the finer aspect of democratic norms that a Chief Minister should stay away from elections to local-self-bodies in order to get a correct feedback on the impact of his administration, could have indulged in electioneering. Navin indulged. So, he knew and he knows that his political credibility has dwindled in Orissa. Even his partner in power, BJP knows it. Therefore the BJP had not preferred an official coalition with Navin in the Municipal elections. And, this is the reality.

So why the candidates belonging to BJD and to BJP got votes in majority of wards? The answer is very simple. Peoples of Orissa, specifically the town-dwellers, who usually are news-watchers, are well aware of how the Congress party has become a lunching pad of USA interests in India and how American lobbyists have become the so-called high-command syndicate of this party.

It would have been very unpatriotic for town-dwellers of Orissa to vote for Congress that has subjected India to American hegemony by all nefarious means.

Therefore, they were to defeat the Congress and therefore, candidates belonging to BJD & BJP have been considered as lesser evils. Now, naturally, there would be more urban bodies in the hands of the ruling coalition. But that will never mean that peoples of Orissa have faith in Navin.

DELAY IN DISSOLVING THE ASSEMBLY WILL HELP ONLY BJP TO GRAB ORISSA

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

But for conceitedness Navin should be able to read the writings on the wall.

He is no more enjoying the confidence of the people. Any delay in dissolving the Assembly will only help the BJP to grab Orissa, because spangled with American agents, Congress will not be able to gather support in Orissa and thus there will be no alternative to BJP, notwithstanding vested-interest votes BJD may bag in ensuing elections for the urban bodies.

Navin has stopped the twenty BJP rebels from voting against him by using the central leadership of the communal party. But communal conflicts in Orissa have not stopped. As seen in Jeypore, communal hatred has engulfed students even.

Communalism is not a law and order issue by origin. So law and order authorities – the police and the courts – cannot extinguish communal fire. Chief minister Navin Patnaik’s sophomoric litany that law will take its own course will not apply to communalism.

Communalism is not born out of criminality. So law and order implementation authorities cannot eliminate it.

Communalism is born out of religious nationality. Religious nationality cannot be neutralized as long as all religions are not banned.

In a country like India where leaders play populist politics, religions cannot be banned and hence religious nationality will grow more aggressively and in corresponding malignancy, communal conflicts too.

Acting on a litigation to end communal conflicts in Orissa, the judiciary seems to have expressed deep concern leading to issuance of certain direction to the government for restoration of peace. It is sad to note that the judiciary at this juncture has no ability to extinguish communal fire. Why, let me say.

Despite brilliant brains and expertise in acquiring power, every human being is a born victim of a sense of insecurity. So it needs a collective identity to feel secured. This collective identity is nationality. This is why there is not a single person in the world who does not belong to a nationality. Sense of insecurity makes highly educated and well-placed persons join the nationality of countries to where they migrate. Some of these migrated persons have even dual nationalities. So, there is none sans nationality in the human society. Nationality is the base that a human being cannot discard.

Nationality has two interlinked but separately distinguishable spheres: political and cultural. When political nationality looses its relevance, persons seek security under cultural nationality.

In India, specifically in Orissa, political nationality has lost its relevance day by day due to increase in economic inequality and decrease in social security amongst the people as the state power has constantly and consistently stood with the exploiters of the land’s natural and human resources in nonchalant disregard to disadvantage of the working class, marginal and small farmers, landless jungle-dwellers, small traders and autonomous social forces like the craftsmen.

Political leaders are so treacherous that the country has already been pushed into American hegemony as witnessed in the matter of the nuke deal that erstwhile party in power – BJP – had initiated and the party currently in power –the Congress – has precipitated.

Therefore peoples’ faith in politicians has severely declined leading to decline in political nationality.

This decline has got pervert expression in regional and sub-regional chauvinism as witnessed in bifurcation of original provinces. UP-Uttarakhand, MP-Chhatisgarh or Bihar-Jharkhand bifurcations are instances that were caused by regional chauvinism than by administrative necessities. Bifurcation of Orissa’s thirteen original districts to thirty is an instance of populist politicians siding with sub-regional chauvinism. There are instances when sub-regional chauvinism has precipitated internecine quarrels amongst local innocents over finalization of the locations district headquarters.

All these factors, often overlooked, are behind loss of relevance of political nationalism in our soil.

Against this backdrop, cultural nationality is getting stronger amongst the economically exploited people. Cultural nationalism is in applicability religious nationalism.

The exploiters are using religious revivalists to use religious nationalism to their own advantage. They are profusely patronizing religious revivalism, as is seen in high concentration of wealth in the hands of so-called god-men.

The only work the god-men do is aimed to generate amongst the exploited people a sense of self-hatred by prompting them to hold their supposedly sinful previous birth responsible for their present suffering.

Because of these god-men peoples fail to see the mischief of exploiters and looters of their exchequer. And, in their sub-conscious, political nationality gets further weaker.

Such a development being totally detrimental to democracy, conscious political activists have been trying to educate the ignorant peoples in matter of their economic and constitutional rights. It is a shame that these activists, who are campaigning for reduction of economic inequality so that faith in political nationality no more falters, are being termed as leftist terrorists and prosecuted against by the state, sometimes ending in encounter deaths. Media under grip of plutocracy is actively collaborating with the perpetrators of state terrorism against the pro-people activists and there are instances when judiciary has preferred not to be less harsh in the name of law and order. Under such circumstances, majority of our people fail to feel the benevolence of political nationality. They rather feel that they are victims of exploitive supremacy of the political state and hence political nationality has lost its meaning to them.

Naturally, therefore, religious nationality has gained ground and religious revivalists have emerged as societal arbitrators. Through pervert interpretation of secularism, the plutocratic state is protecting and patronizing these religious revivalists, who taking advantage of decline in political nationalism are tactfully using religious nationalism to usurp state power that further strengthens plutocracy.

But plutocracy under the present phenomenon called globalization has two internecine components that we can call national capitalism and international capitalism. In our country national capitalism has its ally in Hindu religious nationalism and international capitalism has its ally in Christian religious nationalism.

Political outfit of the Hindu religious nationalism is BJP that had so far been in rivalry with the religion of Muslims in Pakistani context. The Hindu religious nationalists thus engaged against Muslims have failed to notice how sharply the Christians have built up their religious nationalism in India, specifically in the belt of Hindu lower castes.

The Christian tactics of retaining Hindu names has helped it proceed as silently as predators move to engulf their preys.

Ever since Sonia entered into Nehru’s daughter’s family, Congress infested with sycophants of this particular family, has shown support for Christians by hoodwinking Indians in the name of secularism. Dismissal of J.B.Patnaik’s government a short while before elections in strong display of disapproval of alleged Hindu atrocities on Christian conversionists in Orissa is a pointer to this.

With Sonia as its supreme boss, congress now stands as political muscles of Christians even as international capitalism metamorphosed in USA trade design in India has got the Sonia led Congress as its strongest stooge.

So rivalry in Orissa’s soil between Hindu religious revivalists and Christian religious conversionists culminated in propagated annihilation of Christian conversionist Graham Stains in Mayurbhanj and proven annihilation of Hindu counter-conversionist Laxmanananda in Kandhamal is in fact the manifestation of rivalry between the two types of capitalism in their competition to grab the Indian soil and its resources for exploitation by the true beneficiaries thereof, the private profiteers.

Unless the state resurrects political nationalism and banns private wealth accumulation, the foul game that national capitalism and international capitalism now play on our soil in the name of religion cannot be stopped and/or eradicated.

What will happen?

With political nationalism dwindled, peoples will madly rush into religious nationalism and wherever whichever religion has the majority support-base will grab political power.

Indian Christians can never go against their life springs flowing in the foreign lands and conscious children of Indian soil will never like foreign hegemony. So, Sonia’s Congress will fail politically and even though BJP is the other side of the ongoing economic offense against the country, it being the political outfit of the users of Hindu religion that comprise majority of Indians at the moment, will rise more vigorously, specifically in Orissa.

I believe, BJP has studied this phenomenon clearly and hence has cleverly been instigating communal conflicts. Courts may issue wishful directions to dissuade communalism but unless religions are banned, religious nationalism cannot be stopped from growing and then in a state like Orissa where Hindus form the majority, who can stop BJP usurping power?

Chief Minister Navin Patnaik should pause and cogitate.

He should stop use of state terror against political activists who are trying to give the downtrodden working class the voice they need for their economic rights and instead of working for POSCOs and Jindals, should work for restoration of faith of the peoples of this state in political nationalism.

As I understand, when a novice in politics, he could not but fall in the trap of Subas Pani & Co of the IAS syndicate that has pushed him into the labyrinth of POSCO and other minegrabbers’ network from where he does not know how to escape. I understand, he is surrounded by sophomoric political hoodlums that have entered into BJD in shameless display of sycophancy and have ruined peoples’ faith in political nationalism.

But despite all his failings, he has shown matchless political guts in risking wrath of colleagues by dismissing ministers on ground of corruption. No other Chief Minister so far in Orissa had embarrassed so many senior IAS and IPS officers by subjecting them to vigilance raids and compelling them to suffer ignominy of enforced idleness. So, he may be kept under trial for a fresh term in hope against hope that peoples’ magnanimity may prompt him to correct the wrongs he has committed by siding with national and international industries to the detriment of farmers of Orissa.

If he dissolves the Assembly and terminates his alliance with BJP, the communalist party of traders and seeks a fresh mandate, I am sure, he will win, as peoples of Orissa will not opt for Congress, the party of American lobbyists. But if he does not do this, I am afraid, BJP will proceed to further flare up communal nationalism by posthumous use of Laxmanananda and eventually grab Orissa. If that happens, it would be the start of a sad phase in Orissa’s life.

COME ELECTIONS, THE NUKE DEAL WON’T BE ABLE TO HELP SINGH RETAIN HIS POSITION

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

USA has since many years been conspiring to clamp its nuclear policies on India. Now it has got a great collaborator in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Antagonism to communism being their common creed, USA has always used Indian right-wingers to advance its interests in this country. The first organized political platform available to it was the Swatantra Party. When USA was admittedly busy in supplying arms to Pakistan to help it grab Kashmir by force, the founder of this party C. Rajgopalachari (Rajaji) had openly pleaded for transfer of Kashmir to Pakistan.

The Communists had aggressively foiled that evil design and peoples of India had so resolutely opposed Swatantra Party that its leaders had to extinguish it to save their own skin. This Party was obliterated from political scenario of India. But its Kashmir stand was a proof of how this rightist party was acting as agent of USA and trying to brainwash people to accept American hegemony.

The country had to suffer the trauma of witnessing assassination of Mrs. Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984 when she was the Prime Minister for the fourth term and Mr. Rajiv Gandhi on May 21, 1991 when he was going to be the Prime Minister for the second term. Both of them were assassinated in manners as meticulous and mysterious as only a super power organization can plan and carry out.

When to many people, even though the alleged assassins in both the cases have been punished, the real brains behind the ghastly crimes are not yet taken to task, to everybody it is well known that both the assassinated leaders, in latter parts of their respective political careers, had emerged as strong obstacles to advancing tentacles of USA.

After Rajiv Gandhi was wiped out, his widow, now quite conspicuous with her support to the nuke deal that “is so clearly in interest of US of America”, stayed so stoic that the Congress party under utter confusion had to agree to P. V. Narasimha Rao taking over as the Prime Minister.

Rao created history by being sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment with Rs.100, 000 cash fine, convicted for criminal “conspiracy” and “abatement” in the ill-famed JMM Bribe Case filed by the CBI. He could escape the punishment due to prosecution’s lackluster response to his appeal in the high court level, but he shall remain forever a black spot on Indian democracy and people will always remember that he was sentenced as above for having committed offenses under Section 120b of the Indian Penal Code (criminal conspiracy) read with Sections 7, 12, 13(2) and 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act as well as substantive offenses under Section 12 for abetment to the crime of bribery. His was an offense against the country but he was not charged for that. He had committed this offense against the country in order only to remain in power.

His remaining in power with Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherjee as his aids in the cabinet was necessary for USA. Looking back to Mrs. Gandhi’s Prime Ministerial days would help understand this phenomenon.

Mrs. Gandhi’s political partnership with the Communist Party of India had defined India’s progress towards socialism so much that the Constitution of India in its Preamble acquired absolute clarity on its objectives by expanding “Sovereign Democratic Republic” to “Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic”.

For USA, epitome of imperialism, this was the most invincible hurdle in grabbing India. There was no scope to change the Preamble, because the Constitution of India is such formulated and worded that any provision thereof may be amended, but not the objective. And, amending the provisions for amendment of the Constitution is no more a matter of simple majority in Parliament. Therefore, a conspiracy was cooked up to sabotage the Preamble by rendering it inconsequential. Singh and Mukherjee helped Rao to carry out this conspiracy. Liberalization of Indian economy and opening up Indian market to foreign trade in the guise of economic reforms were the tools.

The nation has seen how Rao’s two ministers Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherjee, had proved very helpful to USA by signing on dotted lines and singing to its tune in matters of GATT and WTO and refusing to place details in the Parliament.

Disgusted of this foul play, peoples of India had rejected Congress in the general elections in May 1996; but in their regime, these agents of plutocracy had destroyed democratic equilibrium so savagely that electoral wisdom could not find a clear expression. The right-wingers took advantage of it and Vajpayee took over as the Prime Minister, though for the shortest period in Indian history. But, addition of his name in the succession list of Indian Prime Ministers helped BJP acquire power again at the end of a tumultuous phase of India’s parliamentary life under two successive Prime Ministers of Janata Dal, H.D.Deve Gowda and I.K.Gujral. With the right-wingers occupying power again, USA was encouraged to advance for netting in India to its nuclear design. Vajpayee had readily agreed.

Voters of India rejected Vajpayee when he was forced to seek a fresh mandate on which he could have proceeded to sign the nuke deal with USA. So, peoples of India, by refusing a fresh mandate to Vajpayee, had refused to accept American nuke proposals.

Manmohan Singh betrayed peoples’ mandate by signing the nuke deal with the USA. The people of India could only came to know of it when, not to the Parliament but to a journalist, he disclosed that the deal is “sealed, signed and non-negotiable” and as if fidgeting, simultaneously he declared, “It is an honourable deal, the cabinet has approved it, we cannot go back on it. I told them – the Communists – to do whatever they want to do, if they want to withdraw support, so be it,” (Singh’s interview published in the Telegraph on 11.8.2007)

Why did he fidget? It was because, he was eager to hide the Hyde Act from the peoples of India as the nuke deal is the offspring of this Act that has in-built mischief to control India’s independence in nuke programs and foreign relations. He fidgeted, because, he had made the deal “sealed, signed and non-negotiable” without consent of Indian Parliament, even though the consent was a must requirement to proceed with the deal. As the World Nuclear News divulged, for the deal to materialize, “The Indian Parliament must agree to the text” of the Hyde Act. But Singh did never place the Act before the Indian Parliament lest it may disagree to the text thereof and under pressure from business houses, made it “sealed, signed and non-negotiable”.

According to the President of Indo-US Business Council, Ron Somers, the American bill for the deal “lays the foundation for major trade and investment opportunities in India for U.S. companies. As many as 27,000 high-quality jobs each year each year for the next 10 years will be created in the U.S. nuclear industry alone.Reuters quoting US top source reported on August 25, 2007 that the deal is a “bonanza for US firms”. This suffices to have an idea of how business lobby mounted on Prime Minister Singh and steered him into signing the deal.

This being the position, the scenarios that we witnessed till withdrawal of leftists’ support was mere drama serials of hoodwinking Indian peoples.

After the withdrawal of leftists’ support, as live telecasted from the Lok Sabha Hall and as peoples of India deeply suspect, wads of slush money cultivated confidence votes for a Prime Minister that has helped USA succeed in clamping its nuclear policies on India.

Come the elections, the USA won’t be able to help Singh retain his position; one may safely predict it knowing Indians’ disposition.
