The Sun was to march for fifteen more minutes to reach the zenith on May 21, 2008. Orissa’s dashing daughter Kalpana set her brave feet on the top of Everest and bestowed upon it the grace of Triranga at 11.45 A.M.

The Himalayas bowed majestically to the young epitome of Himalayan determination who was dauntlessly standing at a height of 8848 meters.

Kalpana, born to Dhenkanal’s Shailabala and Gunanidhi Das is a lawyer by profession but a mountaineer by mission.

When her second attempt to reach the top of the world was to be terminated at a height of 8000 meters on May 29, 2006 because of invincible blizzards, she had generated in every Oriya heart a very unique feeling of oneness with her and also confidence that she will sure reach the summit one day.

That day came yesterday.

To me personally Ram of Ramayana is no incarnation of any God. I am perhaps the first post-independence Indian to have said this not only in these pages, but also in national media.

To me, poet-philosopher Valmiki had created him for propaganda of patriarchy as the guiding force of society as he had understood. And, in retaliation to that Vyasa had created Sri Krshna as an epitome of matriarchy in Mahabharata.

All those who do not accept matriarchy as their guiding philosophy, honor Ram and the social system he stood for. Those who do not accept patriarchy as their guiding philosophy do not put premium on Ram.

But politico-philosophic antagonism notwithstanding, the place of Ram and Ramayana in Indias social life is so wholesomely high that Ram Sethu can be safely said to be the symbol of Indias unique emotional unity. Hence any attempt at vandalizing Ram Sethu, to me, is an affront to national oneness of India.

The UPA government under Dr. Man Mohan Singh, working under the shadow of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi, in the name of economic progress, is busy in destroying everything that we would like to term as supremacy of our people. The latest example, as we have maintained, is the nuke deal with USA. The deal, which according to US authorities is a bonanza for their traders and is designed clearly in the interests of the United States, is clamped on us by Singh in course of which it has been established that his government takes our Parliament for granted.

According to World Nuclear News document, INSIDE BRIEFING: USA brings India in from the cold, in approving the ‘Henry J. Hyde United States-India Peaceful Atomic Energy Cooperation Act of 2006’ on 9 December 2006, the USA Senate, conscious of the damage the deal will cause to India and apprehensive on that premise of the opposition it may face from patriotic Indians, had made it mandatory that for proceeding further in the matter, the Indian parliament must agree to the text”.

To quote WNN, for the said Acts applicability, once President Bush has signed the document and it becomes law, four further agreements must be made:

A specific agreement between India and the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding safeguards of nuclear materials.
India-specific trade guidelines must be drafted by the Nuclear Suppliers Group, a 45-nation cartel which has restricted nuclear trade to NPT signatories since 1992.
The USA must conclude a ‘123’ agreement with India on nuclear cooperation. Section 123 of the US Atomic Energy Act of 1954 requires an agreement for cooperation as a prerequisite for nuclear deals between the USA and any other nation.
The Indian parliament must agree to the text.

It is a shame that Singh has kept our people in dark about this stipulation and knows as he that Indian Parliament will never agree to the text, has tried to evade voting in the Parliament. Treating our Parliament as just a referral point and taking it for granted as in this particular matter is nothing but an instance of denigration of the supremacy of our people by the UPA government.

The same mindset is evident in the matter of Ram Sethu. The religious sentiment of majority if Indians will not only be affected by official assault on it, but in the words of former Union Minister Prof. Murali Manohar Joshi, “the project could be a serious security risk for the country and seriously affect its environment.the canal will expose the coast of Kerala to tsunamis, and wash away India’s precious Thorium deposit.”

Led by non-Hindus, it is understandable that the UPA government may slough over the religious sentiment attached to this Sethu; but how can it proceed without convincing the people on factual reality that Joshis apprehensions are misplaced and /or baseless?

UPA has played much havoc with our people. We will not tolerate if Ram Sethu is vandalized in sharp disregard to its emotional, environmental and nationally integral importance.

As a man of Tigiria, I am thrilled to know that my land has given a new contribution to the world of excellence in the shape of Surya Sahoo, who has been honored for being a champion entrepreneur in the business world.

Tigiria’s contributions to world of culture is immense.

The world famous Odissi dance, had its origin, incognito, in Tigiria. It was created by a prince of Tigiria, Jadunatha @ Jadumani Tunga Rai Simha. Later Kavichandra Kali Charan Pattanayak had given it the name of Odissi.

Prince Jadunatha had developed this wonderful dance system by amalgamating the love dance Alasha nrtya, then prevalent in the coastal belt of Orissa and martial dance of Tigiria named in his family name as Tunganrtya and codified the manners of this new dance form by providing it with a scripture captioned as Abhinaya Darpana Prakasha, which, in the words of eminent scholar Pt. Kedar Nath Mohapatra,“has got wide circulation in the land, as the classical ‘Odisi’ dance and ‘Odisi’ music were being regulated by the injunctions given in this work” (Contribution of Orissa to Sanskrit Literature, Orissa Sahitya Akademi, 1960, p. CXCIX).

Pt. Mohapatra has further noted,“Jadunatha Simha, the author of this work was a chief of the Tigiria royal family of the ex-State Tigiria, not far from the city of Cuttack” (Ibid).

Raja Gopinath Tunga Champatisimha, his predecessor in the throne had authored Veera Sarvaswa, which is regarded as the grammar of warfare that, over and above missilery, for the first time had codified the training techniques of war animals.

The world famous ikat (bandha) fabric of Orissa owe its excellence to Tigiria. This is evidenced by the very fact that all the sets of Bandha fabrics- Sadhi, Khandua, Pheta and Phuta– needed for Sri Jagannatha, Balabhadra and Subhadra during a year comes from Nuapatna of Tigiria. Madala Panji has recorded that the Gajapati King of Orissa had requested the Raja of Tigiria to prevail upon the weavers of Nuapatana to continue supply of the bandha fabrics to the deities in return of which he had offered them hereditary positions of Patra.

Eberhard Fischer and Dinanath Pathy at Chapter 12 of Jayadeva And Gitagovinda (Harman Publishing House, New Delhi, 1995), citing their earlier research with Sitakant Mohapatra in the team captioned Orissa, Kunst and Kultur in Nordost Indian have noted,

The ikat technique of tie-dying threads before weaving to produce multicolored designs in the warp, or in the weft, or in the combined wrap and weft, was practiced by Orissa weavers since several centuries in simple forms, especially in the region of Nuapatana and Tigiria where silk was used as raw material.

Even in development of these “simple forms” to multi-designed pictorial motifs, the earliest historical documents they have discovered depict Tigiria as the source of such excellent textile technology.

The late legendary Bibhuti Kanungo had learnt this technique from a master weaver of Nuapatana, namely Arjuna Subuddhi, staying in his house for months during my childhood days and had transferred this technique to weavers of Sambalpur through Krutartha Acharya for which he was awarded by the central government. The words in the citation of felicitation that he was given bears proof of this. By adopting the Tigiria technique, Sambalpuri Vastra has surged ahead.

It is Tigiria where Mahamahopadhyaya Chandra Sekhara Simha Samanta (Pathani Samanta) had mastered astrology under the famous scholar of his time Bhubaneshwara Badapanda and it is Tigiria, that in modern times, has given the world one of the finest philologists in Dr. Debi Prasanna Pattanayak.

But twentieth century’s only Mahakavya in Sanskrit Matrumukti Muktavali (Published by Orissa Sahitya Akademi) also comes from Tigiria, Prof. Jayakrushna Mishra being its author.

Bengalis owe the origin of their first library of palm leaf manuscripts to Tigiria, as at Shantiniketan it was begun with hundreds of such manuscripts, most of them rare and original, donated to Visva Bharati for referral use of the world by the Raja of Tigiria when Dr. D.P.Pattanayak was working there as a member of faculty.

Now Surya, as the Sun is called, has illuminated our other side of the globe.

As said above, Tigiria, though the smallest amongst all the ex-princely states of India, has a lot of contributions to many distinguished fields of human pursuits.

The latest in the list, Surya, the “champion entrepreneur in the business world” as Houston Business Journal of November 16-22, 2007 depicts, makes me as a Tigirian happy beyond description.

I thank Prof. Debasmita Misra for having shared with all of us Oriyas, through his forum ‘myodisa’ this pleasing news of this honor bestowed upon Surya.

So nicely and so aptly Prof. Misra has put his pride to pen that I think, I should reproduce it in its entirety in these pages.

This is what has said Prof. Debasmita Misra.

How many of us have come across the name of Surya Sahoo? Except for the Houston bAsi oDiAs of USA, not many.

However, if you read the Houston Business Journal of November 16-22, 2007, you will be proud to see a simple smiley face of this individual who has been honored for being a champion entrepreneur in the Business World.

Fairing originally from Panchagan, Tigiria of Cuttack District, the journal states that as a child, even while counting the stars at night, Surya Sahoo always had a technical aptitude. ‘We have seen quite difficult times in our early married days’, says his wife Kabita Sahoo. Surya graduated from NIT Rourkela in Chemical Engineering in 1986 and did his MS and Ph.D. from University of Memphis, TN in Environmental and Civil Engineering, respectively.

In 2000, Surya Sahoo, along with his wife Kabita and sons Amlan and Ishan, initiated the company called Institute of Information Technology (IIT) in the outskirts of Houston, TX. Getting vehicles where they need to be in the least amount of time possible is the goal of the Institute of Information Technology Inc. Located in The Woodlands, the privately owned company founded of Surya Sahoo, combines Geographic Information Systems technology with operations research optimization methods to provide solutions to a variety of spatially based challenges. ‘Basically we develop software applications that address the problems businesses find in their industry that are spatially based,’ says Clive Thomas, chief operations officer for the Institute of Information Technology. ‘Distance and space is a critical factor to be able to route vehicles
efficiently, and we support those challenges.’ (cf. Houston Business Journal)

Surya’s business acumen and his leadership has been recognized consistently through awards such as,

1. Fast Tech 50 Award in 2003
2. Who’s Who in the Heritage Registry in 2004-2005
3. Franz Edelman Finalist Award in 2004
4. Fast Tech 50 Award in 2004
5. Enterprise Champion Award from Fast Tech 50 in 2007

Faring from a simple oDiA family, Surya has reached a point in his career, where he has made everyone proud. Despite his achievements and accomplishments, he is a person with immense humility and generosity. He has increased his employees by 40% over the last year by expanding his operations. He is being considered now as a leading businessperson of Houston.

Surya Sahoo’s parents are Sri Bansidhar Sahoo (Retd. Asst. Engineer) and Smt. Kumudini Sahoo. His wife Kabita Sahoo’s parents are Sri Sankar Sahu (Retd. Reader in Physics) and Smt. Pravasini Sahu (Retd. Asst. Teacher) of Bargarh, oDishA. I am sure, their blessings have made Surya and Kabita to achieve what they have today.

Such achievements should be an encouragement for all oDiAs. Please join me to give a big hand to Surya and Kabita Sahoo for their success. Please pass on this message to all oDiAs so that Surya and Kabita be the inspiration in the heart of any aspiring entrepreuner. A profile of their acomplishments will appear in Duradrusti, January Edition, 2008. I have attached a brief note to this communication for your perusal.

On behalf of myodisa, I offer my sincere CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes to Surya, Kabita, Amlan and Ishan.

This Court directs the Public Health Engineering Department to take over possession of the . plots of land .. from Puri Municipality and keep the same under its control and custody and to ensure that no construction takes place on those plots of land. This is what the High Court of Orissa has ordered in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) pending before it for a decade, on 7 November 2007.

The plots forming the crux of the case are eleven plots of land, comprising a total area of 448 acres in Balukhanda locality of Puri Municipality.

This patch of land can be termed as Mother Natures magic lab where she has transformed the salty roars of the Mahodadhi (the sea that distinguishes Orissa coast) into sweet water, a precious deposit of the like of which is not seen elsewhere.

From time immemorial, people of Puri had preserved this rare wealth and not allowed anybody to tamper with this patch of land. Therefore the land was lying vacant.

But with enforcement of the Constitution of India, which controls every citizenry action, but which, under overwhelming presence of the propertied class in the Constituent Assembly having made the right to property a Fundamental Right, has provided congeniality to a satanic human motive like avarice and with that an environment to all the citizens for becoming selfish, our society has fallen into such a sorry state that this rare natural wealth has been tampered with by persons in power to the total disadvantage of the present and future generations of our people in Puri.

This unfortunate assault on the Natures magic lab in Balukhand started at the behest of Biju loyalists, as evidenced in, to cite an instance, its leasing out to private and institutional persons during the tenure of Maheswar Mohanty as Municipal Chairman and non-correction of the wrong even when he continues as the Speaker of Orissa Legislative Assembly and Naveen as Chief Minister.

No wonder the government remained nonchalant to the necessity of actively participating in the PIL to make the matter clear. In a veiled stricture on the Government, the High Court has noted in its judgment on 7 Nov. 2007 that though the PIL was pending for more than a decade, the State had not preferred its version to the Court till today, i.e. till the day of delivery of the judgment.

The Municipality under the grip of Naveens men did not bother either. The Court notes, No body appears for Puri Municipality. There was also no appearance on behalf of the said Municipality on 31. 10. 2007. No prayer for adjournment has been made on its behalf. This case was filed in 1996. As such, this Court cannot wait any further.

Why the government of Orissa as well as the Puri Municipality run by Biju Janata Dal was so reluctant to actively participate in the case?

Answer lies in Bijus last tenure as Chief Minister.

After he had grabbed power as the Chief minister on 5 March 1990, a new era of breech of peoples trust had spread its wings all over the State and corrupt fellows and commission agents had had the State under their grip and in tune with that, in the city of Puri, a plan was formulated to usurp these plots of land.

Orissa State Housing Board was used for the purpose. It applied for the land to build up model colonies with modern amenities while agreeing to use of its infrastructure by private individuals occupying land on lease directly from the Municipality.

Endorsing the application, the Municipality moved the State government in the Housing & Urban Development department for permission, as during J.B.Pattanaiks tenure, on 6 May 1982 there was an order for placement of the said land under the control of the Public Health Engineering Organization of the said department for use in supply of drinking water, which was neither implemented nor withdrawn.

Protgs of Biju, who were eager to grab the land, were of the belief that there should be no difficulty for the Department to grant the permission sought for, as the 1982 order has been abandoned and the land continued to be in its control.

As per clerical practice in the Secretariat, which usually gets endorsed by the designated officer without buzzing in the chamber of the Secretary, the Public Health Engineering Chief was asked to examine the proposal of the Municipality. He, in his tern, forwarded the same to the Director of Environment (DE).

To the chagrin of higher ups, the DE, unaware as he was of the hidden motive of the power circle, commented on 7 October 1993 that the “area being over the sweet water reserve zone, the proposed housing scheme over the said area may adversely affect the sweet water reserve zone. Chief Engineer of Public Health endorsed the opinion of the DE, which was crystal clear, to the Secretary of the Department. Then it was very difficult for bureaucracy to comply with the request of the Municipality. The Secretary of Housing & Urban Development communicated refusal to the Municipality with advice that an alternative site for the housing project may be suggested.

But the Municipality did not stop. It executed the lease with Orissa State Housing Board on 8 April 1994 vide Registration number 1234. It was absolutely illegal. The land belonged to the Government. The Government had specifically put the land under the control of Public Health Engineering Organization to save the sweet water zone from any factor of pollution and misutilisation. Hence the Municipality had no locus standi to lease out the land to the Housing Board. But so tremendous was the urge for grabbing the land that the Municipality ignored the advice of the Secretary of the UD department and executed the deed with the Board.

Mr. Uma Ballav Rath, an ex-member of Orissa Legislative Assembly and an active sentinel of the collective interest of the people of Puri District, foreseeing the danger to the world famous city of universal brotherhood, where the Mahodadhi (the sea of Orissa wrongfully named as Bay of Bengal) as well as the Sri Mandira of Sri Jagannath receive reverence of lakhs of visitors everyday, filed the PIL as the last resort.

The PIL pending, general public, apprehensive of the debacle the deal would cause to their health and environment, raised their objection in such a pitch in their own manner that the Housing Board could not dare to take over physical possession of the land.

A high level meeting was held on 15 Feb. 2000 to tackle the situation. And, the Housing Board opted to withdraw against refund of the money it had paid to the Municipality towards cost of the land from the entertainment tax payable to the Puri Municipality.

But despite this, as the High Court has preferred to note, Puri Municipality has possibly granted some leases to others in respect of the aforesaid vacant area for construction of residential houses on the said area.

Besides political fellows, others to whom the Municipality granted leases, as per Annexure 3 are IAS officers and their relatives, IPS officers and their relatives and senior OAS officers working at that time in Puri Collectorate.

Going by records at hand, the High Court has nullified every allocation from the 448 acres patch of land and asked the Public Health Engineering Organization to take over possession of all the eleven plots that form crux of the PIL.

Such exercise must be completed within four weeks from today upon notice to Puri Municipality, it has stipulated.

This Court directs that the entire area of 448 acres should be kept free from any construction, says the verdict.

As regards the existing construction, if any, by any lessee, the Court has directed that the lease shall stand cancelled and for demolition of constructions, after such cancellation, would be compensated in accordance with Law.

With this judgment the state government is in a sweat. And, bound to be.

The persons who have acquired the lease from the Puri Municipality are wrong in the eyes of the Law in as much as the Municipality not being the rightful owner of the land should not have been accepted by them as the lesser. But now, under the Court verdict, if their houses would be demolished (and bound to be) they are to get compensation as deemed proper under the Law. This may metamorphose into a legal conundrum.

On the other hand, Government organizations like the Housing Board had sold houses to persons who had responded to their advertisements and now when they will be evicted from their legitimately acquired residences, there is nothing unusual if they seek relief in the apex Court.

So what would happen to the implementation of the verdict of the High Court that has stipulated that the taking over of the entire 448 Acres of the sweet water Zone must be completed by Public Health Engineering Department within a period of four weeks from today, i.e. from 7 November 2007?

The Sweet Water Zone is so rare and so valuable that no further foul play on it using Law as a weapon should be encouraged.

Hence, the State has only one option. It must treat the people who are to face cancellation of lease and demolition of house as displaced people and extend them the required help without loss of time.

In this case, for the fault of people like Maheswar Mohanty the State Exchequer will be punished. But, it is not that that should not be. The people of the State as a whole deserve this financial loss, as collectively we all are responsible for making the packs of undeserving people our leaders.

Sciencedom is agog with arrival of a new era. This is the era of controlled application of electricity. But that an Orissa-born scientist, Dr. Asoka Misra is the father of this era is yet to be acknowledged.
dr. asoka misra

“Low-intensity electric fields can disrupt the division of cancer cells and slow the growth of brain tumors, suggest laboratory experiments and a small human trial, raising hopes that electric fields will become a new weapon for stalling the progression of cancer”, reports the August 2007 issue of Physics Today, the flagship magazine of the American Institute of Physics, highlighting a research, performed by an international team led by Yoram Palti of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa.

Deep Brain Stimulation, that facilitates resurrection of vegetative patients, reported in Nature, and conveyed by The Telegrapgh, 13 August, 2007, is claimed to be a “technique that uses the minutest quantities of electric current supplied through electrodes drilled deep inside the brain with millimeter accuracy”.

Biomolecular recognition in DNA with better resolution is claimed to be possible through a technique called electro deposition technique that pivots on use of Cadmium Selenium (CdSe) which is a semi-conductor, as shown online 16 Jan.2007 under the caption Biomolecular Recognition in DNA tagged CdSe nanowires, Sarangi et.al.

International industrial giant Philips has claimed to have invented “fluidfocus lenses”, the technique of which is counter-claimed by a France firm Varioptics. But the method common to both is controlled application of electricity.

“A current of two-thousandth of an ampere of electricity applied for 20 minutes is enough to produce a significant improvement” in enhancing verbal skills, reports Nature News online quoting a study by Meenakshi Iyer of National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, Maryland. (The Telegraph, 1 Nov.2004)

Many more utilities with promises to usher in hitherto unknown advantages for human society like Sperm Filter to fight infertility (The Reuters, 5 Jan.2005), Deep-brain-Stimulation to allow the surgeon to “neuro-navigate” through the brain to the nearest millimeter for tackling Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s syndromes, Flexy-gadgets as conceived by researchers at Sony Tokyo Lab to Flexi-display in ads to Electric specs with adjustable focus (Science News, 2006), are a few of what are in store.

Controlled application of electricity is the life spring of all these techno-achievements

If all these achievements, present and future, metamorphose into a new era of technology, Dr. Asoka Misra, a scientist born in Dhenkanal of Orissa, should be aptly acknowledged as the father of this era.

He is the first scientist to have invented the method of controlled application of electricity to interfere into the structure of a matter in order to manipulate its character into a desired state, which was first published in the referral journal of United States of America, ‘The Metallurgical Transactions A’ in 1985 proceeding eventually into publication of his conclusive determination in the February 1986 issue of the same journal under the caption, “Misra Technique”. His invention has been patented vide US Patent No.5,253,696 dated 19th October, 1993. And, in patenting the method of controlled application of electricity, expressed in the patent as “method for controlling solidification of metals and other materials”, Dr. Misra is the first in the world. His method has been referred to and relied upon in registration of later patents in USA.

It is marked that after publication of “Misra Technique” in 1985-86 and specifically after his technique was available for public perusal consequent upon registration of his patent in 1993, controlled application of electricity has become a sure process in shaping of various innovations that has given birth to a new era in the Sciencedom.

Honesty prevailing, Dr. Mishra deserves to be acknowledged as the father of the era of controlled application of electricity in scientific innovations as these are post-patency his method.

[Dr. Asoka Misra, did his M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering in 1972 as well as Ph.D. in Physical Metallurgy in 1975 at Polytechnic University of New York, USA and was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA, from 1977 to 78. During his Doctoral but prior to Post-Doctoral period he also worked as Quality Control Engineer, Clinton Engines Corp, Iowa, USA from 1975 to 1977. After Rutgers, he joined IIT, Kharagpur as Assistant Professor in Metallurgical Engineering in 1979 where from he proceeded in 1991 to New York for two years in a scientific quest. In intervening period of 1986-87, he worked as Visiting Fellow at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

However, on leaving USA in 1993, he thought of helping Orissa grow in Technical education and joined O.E.C. as Principal in 1993. Since then he has steered several Engineering Colleges of Orissa as Principal including BIET, Bhadrak / ITER, Bhubaneswar / GHITM, Puri / SSECT, Balasore / KIST, Jatni / NMIET, Bhubaneswar before accepting the present assignment at KEC, Bhubaneswar.

He has four inventions to his credit out of which, two inventions are named after him and known as (1) Misra Technique and (2) Misra Random Rotation Technique. Misra Technique that forms the crux of this report has been patented in USA in 1993.]

The Rajiv Gandhi Forum has felicitated Dr. Asoka Misra, eminent techno-academician, with The Best Scientist-2007 Award in a special function held in the IDCOL Auditorium at Bhubaneswar in the evening of August 20 marking the 63rd birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister of India.

Dr. Misra is the inventor and founder of Misra Technique that has revolutionized the world of science with the safest process of application of electric power in transformation of character of a medium in ever-newer avenues beginning from instrumental lenses to human limbs to the benefit of society. His technique has filled up a gap on the way of innovations that the scientists of the world had long been in dire need. Patented in USA, his invention has been referred to in various subsequent patents.

Dr. Ratnakar Pandey, a close associate of Rajiv Gandhi during his lifetime had joined the function as the Chief Guest and felicitated Dr. Mishra in the packed-to-the-capacity hall.

Formerly a member of the faculty at IIT,Kharagpur, Prof. Misra has enriched many techno- institutes of Orissa with his expertise as an academic-administrator after returning home from USA and is presently the Principal of N.M.Institute of Engineering & Technology, Bhubaneswar.

A single company ITC produces in India many brands of cigarettes that compete with each other inasmuch as none of the ads of a brand ever mentions a word of praise for the other. They seem to be archrivals. But their sale proceeds go to the same manufacturer. A question may arise as to why a single company has developed so many brands and has been investing money for separate advertisement for each one of them instead of advertising for all of them in a single take at a time? The answer is very simple. The manufacturer knows that no single brand of cigarette can keep addicts satisfied for all time to come; because, basically the addicts are fickle and they cannot be tagged to any particular brand for a longer period than getting disillusioned with its taste. The disillusionment comes quick because cigarette is harmful to health and an addict takes cigarette while even hating to take it. So there must be an alternative available to the addicts and thereby whenever whosoever of them shifts preference to any of the alternative brands, the company should be in a position to continue fetching its profit. This is why there are so many brands of cigarettes, rival to each other but belonging to the same owner.

Indian political scenario is just like this. The looters have developed a multiple party system. Mainstream parties wedded to political economy of capitalism, contesting with each other, even as the communists act in alliance with them, at times joining the cabinet of V.P.Singh and at times, supporting Man Mohan Singh, make it crystal clear that notwithstanding their differences all these parties are one and the same in their mission. And that mission is nothing but making India a plutocracy, where the looters are the real rulers.

Agents of the looters are in power in India since independence. We are to look back to know it.

Under compulsion of situations that history had clamped on us, our struggle for freedom was bourgeoisie dominated. And, therefore, our freedom was nothing but a transfer of our country from the hands of white-colored bosses to black-colored bourgeoisies. In other words, we witnessed our countrys transition, in the guise of freedom, from the white commercial community to the black commercial community. In Oriya one may say: GORA BEPARINKA HATARU ASI DESHATI KALA BEPARINKA HATARE PADIGALA.

Everybody knows that the first decision as a free nation we took was to retain the British system of administration. Needless to say, British system was a pro-business system and by retaining that system, we ensured that the country would remain subjugated to business empires. Communists, then in their ideology, were the strongest obstacles to retention of this system. Therefore, Nehru, heading a bourgeoisies government as he was, had to ban the Communist Party of India, which, when the entire leadership of Congress was imprisoned following Gandhijis calculated Quit India call, had led the most heroic battle for our freedom from 1942 to 1947. If we are honest, we must admit that after independence, the communists had valiantly fought for merger of princely states with Union of India and to the pride of us Oriyas, legendary communist revolutionaries like Veer Baishav Pattanayak of Dhenkanal, Braja Kishore Pattanayak of Athgarh, Banamali Das of Nilagiri etc had raised revolutions of so much velocity that the kings of these states were bound to express willingness to merge with India and then that developed into reality to be followed by other kings. Let it be remembered that there were 618 kings in India after partition that had been declared as sovereigns after the British Empire had freed them from their bonds. Had the kings not been compelled to merge their states in the Union of India, we would have seen our motherland fragmented in 619 independent parts. After compelling the kings to merge with India, the communists put priority on abolition of zamidaris and bestowal of ownership of lands on the tiller. This was not acceptable to the bourgeoisies. So they conspired and succeeded in banning the Communists in 1948 and hence, when we finally drafted and adopted our Constitution, the political watchdogs of the toiling peoples were kept away from adding their wisdom to it. As a result a hundred percent anti-people agenda has been enshrined in our Constitution as Fundamental Right on Property. This Fundamental Right has reduced India to a grazing ground of avaricious people and has eventually transformed our democracy to a plutocracy. And, plutocracy has polluted our political horizon so much that the present generation of communists is serving the imperialists!

Like the ITC owning multiple cigarette brands that compete with each other to hoodwink and keep addicts under its grip, the looters have developed multiple political parties that are marshaled as rivals with the same creed but different colors, in order to ensure that notwithstanding how jealously people exercise their franchise, that would be nothing but Hobsons choice. Elect may whomsoever they like, but thereby only the rich or the agent of the rich is elected and whatever law or policy parliamentary forums formulate, frame and enforce, serves the purpose of the rich, the looters.

This is where we now stand.

To me, therefore, there is no difference between BJP, BJD and the likes and Congress.

So I am far away from the game political parties play. I cannot say who is acceptable from amongst them.

But I am sure; time is coming when people will build up their own political weapons on basis of their needs. The random and absolutely apolitical uprisings that we witnessed in Kashipur or Kalinganagar in Orissa are sample precursors of the class war trying to take shape. When it happens it may precipitate mayhem. But that cannot be stopped unless the states resources are addressed to the bare needs of the masses and the lootraj ends.

To me, to avoid mayhem, the resources of our country must now be addressed to the most essential program that is of basic utility. And, that is conservation of natural resources and provision of irrigation facilities to cultivable lands.

The planners and their elite supporters are saying that the country needs to concentrate on many areas of development. They may be right according to their own dose of avarice, their own feeling of well-being, their acceptance of training and their orientation. But they are doing wrong to India by engaging attention to areas that are not of primary importance. We shall have to, if we need peace, put priority only on areas of primary importance. And, these areas are (1) conservation of natural resources and (2) provision of irrigation to agricultural fields.

When we were fighting against Britishraj, there were many necessities for which parallel priorities could have been fixed. But Bapuji put emphasis on only one item. That was salt. Had there been no movement for salt (known to history as LAVAN SATYAGRAHA) we would never have got our independence till date. If other necessities had been stressed upon at that time, the movement for salt would have been diluted.

So, let us not dilute the real issue. Let us truly stand with our peoples. Let us not put any emphasis on anything other than these two. Our people are basically cultivators. If eco-systems are conserved and water supply to our agricultural fields is ensured, we will soon be a land of real prosperity.

Let the elite of us stand with our poor brothers and sisters, though massive in majority who are bereft even of the ability to speak up for themselves.

Let us not allow individuals to build up their private territories in the guise of SEZs, by taming the team of persons we have put in charge of our country. Let us punish the traitors who have allowed economic kingship to grow after we abolished geographical kingship.

Let us understand that the country belongs to its inhabitants who are bereft of their assets as a few looters, by taming our politicians and top brass of bureaucracy, have looted them.

Let us foresee that time is coming when the looted majority will reach the last limit of tolerance and assert its wrath.

And then, howsoever many political parties be in their cheating best, no protection would be available to the looters and their tamed dogs looking like leaders in their attires as well as to the bureaucrats that are acting now as scavengers.

That time is on the anvil.

This is a stage of transition where we now stand. Let us take note of it and try our best to extricate our country from the looters so that the silent majority no more perishes under abysmal wretchedness, agriculture no more ends in draughts, tribes no more miss their eco-systems, inanition no more affects the workers, villagers no more face famines, corruption no more cripples our nation.
